Hello!
How will the half-life of a drug change in patients with liver disease?

If the patient has liver disease, the metabolism of the drug by the cytochrome P450 enzymes will be reduced. Biliary excretion will also decrease. Therefore, if the drug is metabolized mostly in the liver, then in liver diseases the half-life will increase. If the drug is metabolized mostly in the in the kidneys or other tissues and the drug is excreted with the urine, feces or sweat, then the half-life will not change.
