What is the mechanism of action of PCSK9 inhibitors?
A number of PCSK9 categories are currently being developed.
The main categories are:
1) monoclonal antibodies and peptides that bind directly to PCSK9, preventing PCSK9 from binding to low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptors;
2) gene silencing that reduces the production of PCSK9.
Simply put, the main strategies are to block PCSK9 or reduce it.
I join the question, why do all this?
@morphism @argentum PCSK9 inhibitors are used for primary and secondary prevention, are prescribed to patients with familial forms of dyslipidemia, with statin intolerance, with acute coronary syndrome, with elevated levels of hyperLp (a), patients with diabetes mellitus. Thus, PCSK9 inhibitors are effective in various groups of patients, including high, very high and extreme risk.
@ekaterina-gribacheva Do you what are the molecular features, which make PCSK9 inhibitors so efficient?
