Microbiology Ancient viruses: real danger or a dummy one?

Hey! Quite an interesting question. I would like, of course, to think that new dangers due to viruses do not threaten us, but to me personally, ancient viruses seem dangerous. Although I am not a virologist and could be wrong. As far as I know, in 2014-2015, French scientists studied samples from Siberia and found viruses 30,000 years old. One of them has become the largest known virus, comparable in size to bacteria. Over the years, these viruses have not lost the ability to infect and, upon research, have infected the amoeba.

@morphism actually, this topic with viruses found in permafrost seems very interesting to me - it once again shows us how everything in the environment is connected and how fragile the system is around us
