Hey! I've learned that heavy water tastes sweet. What could be the reason for this? I thought the chemical properties of heavy water are the same as those of ordinary water

Hi! I've read, that scientists have identified a specific receptor that is responsible for sensing the sweetness of heavy water in humans, and they suggested that this happens due to the fact that heavy water makes the protein molecule more rigid and in its environment the protein becomes more compact. But the exact mechanism hasn't been determined yet
